Hairbrushes are the Devil

February 2, 2011

Happy Groundhog Day! According to Phil, we’re getting an early Spring. And I can’t wait! I also can’t wait to watch Groundhogs Day on repeat tonight. Watching a repeating movie on repeat is just my idea of a party.

ANYWAY. Last night around 10pm I realized that if I was planning on coming into work today, I should probably de-ice my car. I was able to open my car doors and used hot water to get the gas tank open since I was on empty and the gas station would need to be my first stop. But the layer of ice on my car was too thick to just chip away, so I needed to let the defrosters run in my car for about 15 minutes before I could start. I was really scared the gas was going to run out, but my awesome Dad (I love you, Dad!) volunteered to drive my car to the gas station right then and fill up my tank. YAY!

But then there was the part where he got stuck at the end of my driveway, completely blocking my street. And the part where my mom and I took garden hoes out there and chipped away at the ice in our pajamas. And the part where this morning I got stuck in the exact same place AGAIN and I had to have two neighbors get out of their cars to help push my car out. And the part where I had to stop on my way to work to help a poor lady in the same situation. I HATE SNOW!

But I made it! My gym was closed again, so I decided to just use the elliptical in my gym at work for a nice 45 minute cardio session. I really wanted to run today, but since the treadmills are my work look like this:

back to the future?

And most of them actually look like this…

Think that's a sign that they are ANCIENT?

I decided to push my 7 mile run to tomorrow. I have tried to run on those treadmills and had shin pain after a mile. Just not safe with no cushioning! I found out another runner at work proposed a huge gym makeover, including costing, tax savings, and measurements to the CEO and was given a flat out “NO.”. Hmph.

OUTFIT:

Jeans & Uggs were just a necessity today.

And please look at my pony tail. WELL I actually forgot my hairbrush this morning and kinda freaked out when I went to go take a shower after working out. I ended up just using my fingers as detanglers, and my hair turned out smooth and straight even without a straightener! It was like magic! Based on the amount of frizz and poof and kinks I ususally get when I’m drying my hair, I’ve come to the conclusion that hairbrushes are the devil. I will not be using one anymore.

BREAKFAST:

Back to normal! Slightly excited about a normal eating routine today. Is that sad?

Well there are zero other people from my team here today. I have plenty of organization to do since we just moved into our new space! I LOVEEE my new desk and file cabinets and space. I’ve been at a card table in a conference room WITH my boss for the last 4 months waiting for the redesign to finish and I am thrilled to be at a real desk!

Also, I haven’t set my alarm for the past two days since exactly what time I got to work didn’t really matter  (with the snow everyone is showing up at random times). It has been SO nice to naturally wake up around 6:30 on my own. I just feel so much more rested when my body wakes up naturally instead of to an alarm.

  • Are you back at work today? All the schools here are still closed, but work must go on! I’ve heard Chicago is a MESS.

Chicago is a horrible mess. I’m dreading having to pull my car out of the driveway. Yikes!

Oh my gosh, what a nasty experience trying to get out of your driveway and to work! I’m glad you made it safely!
Those treadmills look awful…and about 20 years old. Yuck.
I never use a hairbrush! But my hair is dreadfully frizzy-curly, so brushing it just turns me into a blond carrot top. I do a bit of finger-detangling, but mostly just swoop it all up into a big top knot/bun and try to get away with looking like a ballerina. 🙂

Those treadmills do look old. Old treadmills = injury. I’m still at work. We have -6 temps in AZ today but still work. Without snow, work will always go on!

Springfield didn’t get hit really bad until yesterday. We have about 14 inches on ground! I’m off today. Whoo.

I made French toast and thought of your dad’s comment. Haha.

I always look forward to getting back to my normal eating routine!

Bummer about the super old treadmills and getting your car stuck.

haha i love the picture i have in my mind of getting your car out! I was totally beating on my car this morning with a stick… FUN!
I havent owned a brush in years. I use a wide tooth comb. My hair always gets all knotty with a brush!

And i think it was a good move to postpone your run, those treadmills are just depressing
