I’m Moving To….

DALLAS!!

I was just told this morning that I start training for my store manager position on July 12th! I do not know ANY other details – I don’t even know what part of Dallas my store will be located in. I also have never been to Dallas so I have so much to learn and research. An apartment hunting trip is in the works!

If anyone lives in Dallas or knows anything about the city, fill me in! I want to know eating, shopping, running…how to make friends! CRAZY that the next year of my life will be spent in Texas!

PHEW. Okay. Lots to process today as I just got my psychological analysis feedback as well. (We had to take a 7 hour test before getting hired). But before that I woke up and went to yoga! Great class as usual although I couldn’t seem to balance on Standing Bow, which is usually my favorite posture. After spinning and a strength workout yesterday and then yoga this morning my legs are officially TIRED.

OUTFIT:

I got speed-ready this morning because I had a meeting first thing. I wanted to have 15 minutes to eat my breakfast before I had to rush away from my desk. Makes me thinking I should probably get speed-ready every morning so I can just get to work earlier…

Oh, I was getting ready so quickly that I didn’t even take a picture. I took later in the ugly upstairs bathroom.

BREAKFAST:

That breakfast I was rushing to eat was overnight oats.

  • 1/3 cup raw oats
  • 1 container Oikos 0% plain
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds
  • stevia, cinnamon, splash water
  • 1/2 banana sliced and mixed in
  • scoop of almond butter on top

Ok I’m off to figure out my life. I have a lunch date with my mentor but I feel like I want to take the afternoon off and just THINK. So much change coming in the future….should be exciting!

QUESTION:

  • DALLAS: Tell me everything!

Clare! I live in Dallas! And I grew up here so I know a whole lot about this big city. Let’s email or chat sometime soon and I can answer any of your questions! Congrats. I think you’ll like Dallas a lot. 🙂

How exciting! My good friend moved down there for her job and she lives in Addison Circle Apartments. There are quite a few pools set up within the complex and a large portion of the people living there are young adults – she made friends very fast! The setup (not the actual apartments) kind of reminded me of college dorms, with everything so close. When I visited her I really liked them – you should check them out!

I think that’s incredibly exciting! I don’t know anything about Dallas (sorry), but I’m sure you’ll make the best of it!

Very excited for you! I lived here for a while and have been living at home with my parents for the last year since college and am moving down to Uptown (a popular 20something place to live) at the beginning of August, so I just finished apartment hunting the area and would love to offer any tips. I am also a pretty big runner, there are PLENTY of great places to run around here! Happy to help in anyway I can, and I am very excited for you!

  7. June 8, 2011 12:18 pm

That’s really exciting! How long will you be in Dallas (or do you know)? I don’t know anything about the area but I think living there would be super cool.

Dallas is amazing, except for the traffic! I would find out where your store is first so you don’t have an awful commute. I have a lot of friends that live off 75 & Lovers Lane. It is a neat area.

I have a friend that lives in Austin and she LOVES it so I think you’ll have a great time, too. Good luck with apartment hunting & the big move! Keep us updated 🙂

Congratulations!! How exciting for you! But Missouri will sorely miss you:-) Just don’t become a Rangers fan while you’re down there!

  15. June 8, 2011 1:49 pm

Wow that’s amazing news!! When do you officially move to Dallas?!? I’ve actually never even been to Texas, but I’ve only heard that it’s humid and filled with amazing Mexican food 😛

    Good luck with everything!!

Omigosh! That’s so exciting! I’ve actually never been to Dallas, but I am visiting my brother (who just moved there) in July! So far he really likes it and I’m excited to go too! My parents went a few weeks ago and my mom couldn’t stop talking about the most incredible grocery store- I think it’s called Central Market? She said it was even better than Whole Foods or Bristol Farms! What an exciting move though!

I grew up in Dallas and currently live in a northern suburb with the fam. I am looking for apartments too! I am ready to move out of the parents’ house! I am looking in uptown (where most young people live and go out). It’s also close to shopping and downtown where I work. Let’s e-mail and I can help you with any questions you have! Good luck 🙂

SO exciting, I hope you love Dallas! I’ve only been a few times, but have loved it every time! Perhaps I’ll have to venture out of Houston and run a Dallas race and we can have a blogger meet-up…!

  41. June 9, 2011 2:29 pm

I just found your blog and have been reading it for just a week or so. And now I see that you are moving to my neck of the woods! 🙂 I’m from the Dallas area. I have lived in Arlington and now I am closer to Denton. Both in DFW, only about 30 minutes from the heart of Dallas. I don’t know a ton about the actual city of Dallas, but one piece of advice is to make your way over to Denton sometimes. It’s a fun little city. Kind of like a smaller Austin. Feel free to get in contact with me when you move! 🙂 Sarah

Hi Clare! Love your blog! I lived in Dallas the past 2 years while I was getting my Master’s degree. It’s a really fun city, and you’ll love being in Texas. I also tried out just about every yoga studio, including Bikram. If you want any tips on good places to live, grocery shop, eat, etc. please feel free to email me 🙂

Exciting! Scary! But you’ll do great. One of my college roommates, who is a longtime vegetarian and a sometime runner, grew up in the suburbs of Dallas, she probably has some info on good places to eat. I can consult with her if you like 🙂

tangent: More importantly where did you get that shirt?? I’m a little jealous of people who get to wear cute clothes to work, I have to be so focused on “can I physically restrain a 17 year old boy in this” and “will someone try to rip this necklace off me” (neither of which are particularly common, but they do happen. so I wear jeans or capris every day and never wear jewelry.)
