Stealing

I saw this fun food survey on Janetha’s blog today and couldn’t resist stealing it for myself. Surveys are just too fun! And a great way to get a post up when you have nothing to write about. What?

Wait I guess I do have something to write about…how stupid I am. Yesterday I was so confused as to how the Teeccino people found me to send me that sample, and then today when I was reading Unmitigated Grub I remembered that I won it in a giveaway from Chelsea. To think I felt special about a company randomly sending me things…

ANYWAY. The survey I stole:

A is for Apple, what’s your favorite variety?

Honeycrisps in the fall and Pink Ladies in the spring. I am picky about my apples…I like the ones that are that reddish yellow and VERY crunchy!

B: is for Bread, regardless of nutrition, calories, or whole grains what is your favorite type to have a nice big piece of?

Mmm probably my Godmother’s homemade Irish brown bread. It’s incredible. So is she. Don’t get me started on my Godparents because I’ll never stop!

C: is for Cereal what is your favorite kind currently (just one!)

I don’t eat cereal ALL that much (I eat oats!) but I do keep some Kashi Go Lean on hand for those random cravings. And when I was younger I LOVED Cinnamon Toast Crunch. For a while I was hooked on Special K Red Berries…which has about zero nutritional value.

D: is for Doughnuts, you might not currently be eating them but what kind do you fancy?

I don’t eat donuts that often these days, but I used to love getting a chocolate long john when I was grocery shopping with my mom!

E: is for Eggs, how would you like yours prepared?

Over easy or fried for some yummy dippage! Or in omelette form with lots of veggies inside.

F: is for Fat Free, what is your favorite fat free product?

Oikos 0% plain. Love it.

G: is for Groceries, where do you purchase yours at?

Depends what I need and where I am! Whole Foods on the way home from work, Trader Joe’s if I’m near the gym, or our local Schnucks if I’m just popping in for something quick.

H: is for Hot Beverages, what is your favorite hot drink?

mmm I LOVE coffee but gave up caffeine so I only have a cup of decaf occasionally now. I am sticking to hot lemon water that I also love for it’s light freshness!

I: is for Ice Cream, pick a favorite flavor and add a fun topping.

A really good vanilla with dark chocolate chips. I’m easy. But put me in a self serving fro-yo place and I’ll go wild:)

source

J: is for Jams or Jellies, do you eat them, and if so what kind and flavor?

Don’t use these much…but I was always a raspberry fan on my PB&Js when I was younger. I like the idea of a Jam made with real fruit better than a jelly.

K: is for Kashi, name your favorite Kashi product?

I guess the Go Lean cereal I have! I don’t eat much other Kashi stuff…

L: is for Lunch, what was yours today?

MMm leftovers from last night. Teriyaki stir fry with chick peas and brown rice. Apple for dessert!

M: is for microwave, what is your favorite microwave meal/snack?

Hmmm I love those microwavable sweet potatoes topped with cinnamon! I also use the microwave to make egg white puffs sometimes. And to quick steam frozen veggies.

N: is for nutrients, do you likes carbs, fats, or proteins best?

Seriously? I guess carbs. I can always go for some wheat thins or a plain whole wheat wrap:) But if you can COMBINE the three macros it tastes best!

O: is for oil, what kind do you like to use?

I use extra virgin olive oil for cooking

P: is for protein, how do you get yours?

I’ve been trying to up my protein lately! As a vege/pesca/unable/unwilling to label- atarian I have to make sure I get enough in. I use….

  • Protein Powder
  • BEANS of all kinds
  • Lentils
  • Tofu
  • Tempeh
  • Greek Yogurt
  • Fish on occassion

Q: is for Quaker, how do you like your oats?

MMM for my hot oats I like them thick and mixed with banana and cinnamon, topped with nut butter! For overnight oats I love mixing them with greek yogurt and chia seed so they are super creamy.

R: is for roasting, what is your favorite thing to roast?

Vegetables!! Namely sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts. AMAZEBALLS.

S: is for sandwich, what’s your favorite kind?

Hummus and tons of veggies on a whole grain bread. And I also love tofu or tempeh on a sandwich…it’s a treat to find a unique and delicious vegetarian sandwich!

source

T: is for travel, how do you handle eating while traveling?

I’m actually not very good at it. When I get off my schedule I start to ignore my hunger cues and can go overboard. But I LOVE trying new restaurants in new cities! And I always pack a snack bag just in case full of bars, bananas, and nut butter packets.

U: is for unique, what is one of your weirdest food combos?

Hmmm…I guess I don’t eat that much weird stuff. When I was little I put syrup on ALL breakfast foods including bacon, eggs, sausage etc. And one time I decided to make my 5-year-old self a snack that consisted of a banana and peanut butter (starting okay) wrapped in american cheese. Don’t try that at home.

V: is for vitamins, what kind do you take?

I take a women’s one a day and a fish oil. I used to take a calcium but then I heard when you take it at the same time as other vitamins it doesn’t work or something…plus there is calcium in my one a day!

W: is for wasabi, yay or nay?

Yay in small amounts.

X: is for XC Foodie, why is she so awesome? XRAY. if we xrayed your belly right now, what food would we see?

My lunch! Stir fry and an apple, and maybe some of the decaf coffee I had this afternoon.

Y: is for youth, what food reminds you of your childhood?

  • Bologna sandwiches with american cheese and mayo
  • plain white rice topped with melted american cheese
  • apple juice
  • pigs in a blanket

source

Z: is for zucchini, how do you prepare it?

Not often! I guess grilled would be best.

Nooww I knowww my ABCssss…next time won’t you answer one for me:) What foods remind you of your childhood?

Foods that remind me of my childhood are Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jam sandwiches and my grandma’s oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips and butterscotch chips! Mmm! 🙂 I also used to live for Welch’s White Grape juice (my grandma used to let me drink it out of a wine glass-I thought it was the coolest thing ever lol).

Ohhh I may be stealing this from you (and Janetha!) when I seem to be having writers block 🙂 Foods that remind me of my childhood are pizza with no cheese on it (don’t ask!) and french toast. I always woke up in the mornings before elementary school to the smell of french toast my mom made for me 🙂

Aw, this is so fun! I guess you already know what foods remind me of my childhood haha 🙂 But PB & J was what I had for lunch pretty much every day for 8 years and I LOVED it. I still eat them occasionally and they make me happy 🙂

Omg, pigs in a blanket for me too!! That was my favorite food growing up — along with mac and cheese. Which probably was because my mom would only allow it on special occasions since she didn’t feel it was particularly healthy.
Ok, right now I really want a pig in a blanket…

I found your blog through a post on our Integrative Nutrition Facebook group – maybe you would want to exchange health histories sometime? You sound a lot like me! So far I’ve done 0 and I’m kind of anxious about doing them. Not sure why, but I’ve also tried to set up a blog about 64 times, and am having trouble getting one going, so hopefully I can get off to a better start with the HH’s! Anyway, my email is joannamwolfe@gmail.com if you’d like more practice!
